About this guide

Drive Is Not a DAM is an independent explainer site about a very ordinary problem: a growing collection of photos and video that lives in shared drives, SharePoint, Dropbox, inboxes and WeTransfer links, and that nobody can quite get under control.

Each article starts with the problem as office and communication staff actually meet it (the duplicate, the lost original, the photo that should not have been shared) and only then moves to the fix. We write about folder structure, file names, search, sharing links, usage rights, file formats and team routines, and we explain where a dedicated image bank (in Dutch: beeldbank, or digital asset management) adds something a general drive cannot.

The examples come from everyday Dutch organisations: municipalities, schools, care providers, housing associations and small marketing teams. Where a claim depends on a product or a rule, we say what it is based on, and we say so when something is a matter of opinion.

The site is written in English about image management for Dutch organisations, so you will meet a few Dutch terms such as fotobeheer, beeldbeheer and beeldbank. We explain them where they first appear.
